Deaf Kids Talk

JWPOSD provides an early intervention, comprehensive, superb education program to develop auditory/oral expertise in deaf children while learning listening, talking and cognitive skills. Our goal is to mainstream our students into regular classes, in the local school, with excellent academic and social abilities by or before first grade.   

The Universal Newborn Hearing Screening legislation, passed in California, 1998, provides for hearing screening testing in the newborn nursery. Babies who do not pass the screening can be enrolled to start early intervention by the age of two or three months. These new populations of deaf infants are given services in the Early Intervention Education Program (0-3).  

  • Early Intervention Education Program
  • Parent and Infant/Toddler (0-3) preschool
  • Preschool program for children age three to four
  • Early elementary level program, kindergarten through second grade for ages over four
  • An outreach program provides individual speech therapy requested for mainstreamed students at their local schools through Elementary School.  

 Music and art are integral components of our curriculum.  

The success of JWPOSD students is mostly attributed to the forty five minutes of individual speech therapy provided daily for each child in all programs.
