PIT NEWS:

FLIP Video Cameras

From Luann Aki:

I just wanted to let you know about an offer that PIT received for Flip video cameras.   See letter below.   Staff of JW, please note that PIT is purchasing 8 cameras for the school for Teacher Appreciation (whoops, there goes the surprise!) but if you would like one of your own, you can purchase one through PIT.  Requests to order are due by next Monday, Jan 25th.

Dear Parents,

Flip Video is an easy to use, pocket sized camcorder with back LCD screen. It has a built in USB port and easily hooks into a computer for uploading video to YouTube or for sending in e-mail form or for manipulation on the computer. Flip video may be a great way for speech therapy and class moments to be recorded and sent home for all family members to share and learn from. It's also a great way to record your child's moments in "natural" settings to share with speech therapists/teachers (For example, Mia used to tell long stories at home, and was mute at school. Recording her at home might have been a good way to share her speech/articulation with her therapist. It also might have been an ice breaker as Mia LOVES technology).

PIT has been accepted as a Spotlight Program Partner meaning each of us can purchase a 120 minute Flip Ultra Standard Definition camcorder for $75 plus tax, each. They normally sell for $150 each. Flip does sell higher end models (they have an HD version) but they are not offering us any other model, just the standard definition.

If you are interested in purchasing an Flip Ultra Standard Definition Camcorder for $75, please let us know. We will order in bulk and when the cameras come in, we will hold a short class on how to use the Flip.

Annual JWPOSD Camping Trip

From Pam Goode

I just made a reservation at Big Basin Sequoia Group site for May 21st (Friday) and 22nd (Saturday). This group site is tent only, but has brand new flush toilets. We can have 50 people and 18 cars (I think the rest of the cars have to drop items off and then park in the overflow lot). The total was $678. I am going to round to $680 and divide by $50. The price per person is $13.60(family of 4 is $54.40).

I think all ages are counted and they are rather strict about the number. Last year we had more than 50 people. There is another group site available for Saturday night only and I can book that once I know that we can cover the $335 and there are families interested in coming for one night. My proposal is to have interested families send me a check based on $13.60 per person and email me that the check is on the way. I will put you on the list once I have received your check and email that you are confirmed. If I receive enough emails interested in staying only one night then I can book the second site.

If the 2 night group site fills up then you can book your own reservation through www.reserveamerica.com or reserve a tent cabin.I know some of you would prefer to be in a tent cabin. I do not have the information for the tent cabins in front of me, but maybe one of you that stayed in one last year could post the tent cabin information to the group? This information is also available through www.reserveamerica.com

I can arrange for the docent tour if you enjoyed it last year and would like to do it again. We might be able to arrange a longer hike for the older kids if that is of interest.  Let me know your thoughts and I look forward to seeing you all in the spring. Please call or email with any questions.

Thanks,

Pam Goode
